ASC MOVIE Releases on May 22, 2015

Assassin’s Creed, the popular video game franchise, is about to make the official leap to transmedia. French video game publisher Ubisoft announced today that it will release the Assassin’s Creed movie on May 22, 2015.

The company made the announcement at the Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3) video game trade show today in Los Angeles. The film is being distributed through Fox and will star Michael Fassbender, a star of the film Prometheus. Fassbender is actually involved in the production and creation of the film through his production company DMC Film.

Ubisoft is retaining considerable creative control through its Ubisoft Motion Pictures studio, said Julien Cuny, brand manager of content for the Assassin’s Creed franchise in a press briefing.

Michael Lesslie, the writer of Prince of Denmark, will write the movie’s script. But other details aren’t being announced.

Cuny is in charge of all content related to Assassin’s Creed, including the film, games, comics, and everything else.

As for Fassbender, Cuny said, “He is a gamer, but he is not hardcore. He doesn’t have the time. But he has played the series and really likes the franchise.”

Assassin’s Creed is a modern-day tale that can also span the centuries. Each installment of the game is rooted in a historical epoch and a particular location. Last year’s Assassins Creed III was set during the American Revolution. But the film evidently won’t be tied to any other Assassin’s Creed game project currently in development.

“We are not approaching it as a movie tied into a game,” Cuny said. “It is a time period everybody knows. It is not 18th century Mongolia.”

Ubisoft is also working on a Splinter Cell movie, but details have not been announced.

Rumors about GOT’s Season 3

Now that Game of Thrones has officially been renewed for Season 3 (no surprise there), rumors are surfacing that auditions for the next season have begun in London. The fan siteWinter Is Comingclaims to have some insider scoop on which roles producers are looking to fill, and which actors are supposed frontrunners.

Read spoilers at your own risk! For more on Wetpaint Entertainment’s philosophy on spoilers, click here.

A commenter on the fan site says that “they are casting Shireen Baratheon. They are looking for an 11-year-old girl. Hundreds of young actresses have already been seen. Auditions happened in London about two weeks ago, recalls to come.” In the books, Shireen is the only heir to Stannis and his wife. (Remember how Melisandre mocked Stannis’ sickly wife for being unable to produce a son in Game of Thrones Season 2, Episode 4: “Garden of Bones”?)

Also rumored is the casting of Daario Naharis, the blue-haired mercenary who falls for Daenerys Targaryen. A source who claims to have seen the casting breakdown says, “The producers are looking for ‘any ethnicity, except Caucasian.’”

Finally, another Twitter source says, “I was told by an agent that Norwegian actor Kristofer Hivju is auditioning for an unknown role.” Winter Is Coming suggests that Kristofer must be auditioning for Tormund Giantsbane, the white-haired raider of wildings north of The Wall.

It’s been reported that, since Book 3 (A Storm of Swords) contains so much material, the content of the book will be split over Game of Thrones Seasons 3 and 4. So, if these casting rumors are veritable, fans of the books should get an idea of how quickly the story will move over the course of Season 3.
